There are moments in "Without
You" that come very close to Suede's 1994 masterpiece, "Dog Man Star"
with, perhaps, a greater influence from the female side.
Placebo are
Brian Molko, above (vocals, guitar), Stefan Olsdal (bass, guitar and keyboards)
and Steve Hewitt (drums).

WITHOUT YOU
I'M NOTHING
(Virgin)
This, the second Placebo CD (Virgin) is vocally and instrumentally
exquisite. There are moments in "Without You" that come very close to Suede's
1994 masterpiece, " Dog Man Star" with, perhaps, a greater influence from
the female side.
Taking the ever so close one step closer, Placebo is the synthesis of Suede
and Bowie with a layer of Lower East SIde, NYC chipped black nail polish.
The only drawback to this ear candy is the lyrical content, which is, at times, simplistic.
Perhaps
if Brian Molko didn't have such a resonant and clear voice, or if his articulation wasn't as accurate, the lyrics wouldn't
be an issue. Hell, if Oasis got away with, "she done it with a doctor
on a helicopter ..." on their first release in the song 'Supersonic', well...
you know what I mean.
Title
cut, Without You I'm Nothing is a haunting and soul-chilling emotional surrender.
Allergic (To Thoughts Of Mother Earth) and Every You Every Me are hip
swinging head bopping anthems that will draw you into a state of total addiction
in no time at all, even though it's.....pure
Placebo.
